Reality

I have to say the joy of Solomon sleeping all night is over! For the last week he has decided to stop sleeping through the night and occationally waking us up at 2am, spewing all through his bed, and causing me to have to change all his clothes. This wakes him up completely and the will not go back to sleep for the next two hours! Silly Solly!!! This has happened about 3 times! And he doesn't like to sleep in the mornings. Once he is up...he is up for the day! Drives me batty some days, particularly as I had an assignment due last week, which didn't get done. His best sleeping times are from 7:30pm until 2 or 3am.
But apart from his lack of sleep in the mornings the little one is quite a happy thing. He has started to smile...and what a beautiful smile it is too! And during the day we enjoy going for walks around the streets of Kambah, visiting his cousins down the street, sitting out in the beautiful Canberra sunshine watching the clothes go round the clothes line and of course feeding time while watching our new favorite shows, America's and Australia's Next Top Models.
Solomon has also started to lose a bit of his long locks, and has a high forehead now. I am sure he has a Mullins head!!! But he is still as cute as ever...just getting a bit thin on top.
So that is life up until now. Not a whole lot goes on here, but the days do tend to go very quickly. It is amazing that my little blessing has been out in this world for more than 5 weeks! And they have been the most wonderful five weeks! I think I'm starting to get the hang of motherhood.

More about Solly

Solomon as had a lot of exciting outings in the past couple of weeks. We went to the football to see the Raiders play the sharks on Mothers Day...a special treat for me!!! Poor Phil was devistated that his team was flogged. Solomon didn't care. His excitement for the day was doing a big poo just as we arrived at the stadium and it went down his legs. So we had to change him. He has made a habit of doing massive poos whenever we go out. We went to a Breastfeeding clinic during the week and learned how to feed better. It was really worthwhile.
Anyway, I'm really enjoying being at home with my little boy. We don't do a whole lot, but we have fun together. Its just fun to watch him grow and become more interactive. He loves looking at the ugly pink and green flowery curtins in my room. He would just stare at them for ages. He also reallly likes his bath time.
So, I've added some photos.

Without Dad

Well, today was our first day at home with out Phil. it's only been 3 hours without him and I think we are coping pretty well. Although I've already changed 2 pooey nappies!!! Not cool!!! Solomon is still learning the art of sleeping. I would have thought being my child that he would be a natural...as I love to sleep. But he isn't that great. For the two nights over the weekend Solomon had a couple of 3 hour awake stints. I was not happy! He would wake at 12:30 and not go back to sleep until 4am!!! I was so tired on Saturday, and it was similar the next night, although not that extreme. But then last night. The little angel slept from 11:00pm until 4:30! Once again I thought he was dead because he slept for so long. And then he went back to sleep at 5:15am and didn't get up until 8:30am...now that is my boy!!!
So that is my life at the moment. Trying to work out when my little lad will be sleeping and trying to do whatever I do around his sleeping. I guess I'm getting this Mum thing down pat!!!
Well, that is about all. I might go to bed before the next feed. Will see how we go.

I was a bit bored today, so I went a bit nuts taking photos on the web cam of my little boy.

Outings

Well, little Solomon, although he spends most his time at home with his Ma and Pa, he has managed to make a couple of short outings and has presented himself quite nicely to some of the lady babies around. His first outing was to Woden where he was over tired and very unsettled, but good old Phil held him for five minutes and he was fast asleep for the rest of the 45 minute shopping trip. He's been for numerous walks around the suburb, cruising around in his very funky Jeep pram. And had a visit to baby Amity's house (who was born 9 days before Solomon). He's also been aquainted with 5 month old Layla O'Heir, whom he was very fond of. Not much else has happened. He is sleeping well at night, which I am cheering about. Hopefully soon, we'll get a nice routine happening so that we'll remain a happy little family.

Photos are of Solomon with his cousins Ethan and Kieran Kirk and the other is Ben and Layla and Phil and Solomon.

Coming home & Solomon's first week

Our time in hospital was a very stressful experience. Solomon didn't sleep much and thus neither did either of his parents as Phil was able to stay with me for two nights. On his third night there I was up for 6 hours feeding him continuously, as it took a long time for my milk to come in, and thus he became dehydrated and his temperature went to 38.6 degrees. So at 4am the Midwife came in and took him to give him a formula feed. It did the trick and his temp dropped dramatically within an hour or two to get back to normal. But he was very restless and a bit sick from the formula the next day. They kept us there for the next day, which was spent mostly on an express pump in between feeds. And we didn't get much sleep as I was found with a room mate, who had non stop visitors and therefore I had even less sleep during the day. The 4th night in hospital was very stressful too, with Solomon having another formula feed and walks around the hospital. He just never settled. On the Friday morning, after being told that I should stay an extra night and all i wanted to do was go home, I balled for about 2 hours and in the end, after discussions with other Midwives and doctors I decided that I wanted to be home and that is what I did. We left the hospital at 1pm on Friday & I can say now that that was the best thing that I could have done. That night, little Solomon slept for 4 hours straight...which is a record for him in his early life. All of us were dumbfounded by the experience. That night was a bit rough with a couple of short feeds and only little sleep. In the end I took him to bed with me. But since then the little trooper has learned how to sleep and so have I. Now he sleeps for 3 hours wakes for a change and a feed for 1 hour and is back asleep. Except for today, he woke at 8.30am, and hasn't quite gone back to sleep. But our nights are fantastic at the moment. He's been sleeping for more than 4 hours at a time. He is such a good little thing. He is feeding very well and at long last my milk has come in and is causing havocs when he cries or hasn't been fed for a while.
So that is about all for now. The little one is one week old today & we're loving him more and more everyday. He is just so cute!!!
